STORE HIGHLIGHT: Madewell

Where I live in Upstate NY I don't have access to the cool girl, vintage inspired, Madewell stores. Once I had access to one in the city, I wanted to adopt the effortless chic and casual look that the store gave off. Slowly but surely, I find myself adding more and more pieces from the store into my closet. I'm always checking out their rings, obsessed with this bracelet set, and my all time favorite coat is from here. Long story short, it's one of my favorite stores.

WHEN TO SHOP

Madewell doesn't have any annual/repeating sales, but most full price items always go on sale. I always score flannels, statement dresses, and jewelry on major sale. Full price items still have promos like 20% off from time to time. So my best advice is to frequently check for the item you're eyeing online, then head into stores.

PROMOS + DEALS

These are the promos I always count on. Madewell offers a student and teacher discount, which saves you 15%. Madewell also offers free shipping on orders with no minimum purchase required. Most of the time theres a promo code that they announce at the top of the webpage that you can enter at checkout. For example, right now 'ENJOY30' adds an extra 30% off sale items. Check this page frequently for their latest deals!

FUN FACTS

Madewell is the sister store of J.Crew. I think of it as it's trendy, edgier sister. Madewell that we all know launched in 2006, but the actual brand technically started back in 1937. It was primarily a work-wear company and shut down in 1989. Mickey Drexler, CEO of J.Crew, decided to buy the trademark and logo and adopt the Madewell brand. The company had a 'story' and an image Drexler admired and felt would give the clothing more background. Madewell has been compared to Levi's, LL Bean, and other American legend brands.

  1. I love Madewell, but it's definitely a little pricey. I always score some great prices in the sale section whenever they have additional discounts, usually only like $20 for a shirt or sweater!
