August Favorites

It's about time for another favorites post here on The Gold Dime.
I love doing these posts because they're like mini reviews and I give you my opinion on some of my most beloved things. Maybe you'll love them just as much as I do!

1. BLK. Water- I've known about this stuff for a while but just recently became a big drinker of it. It's water with fulvic trace minerals. The minerals are what make it black and hence the name. Everyone's so afraid to try it but I can honestly say it taste like regular water. I also get the mango flavored one -- fruity and refreshing with no calories and all natural. You can find these in the organic section of the grocery store.

2. Madewell Skinny Fatigue Pants- My first ever Madewell purchase and I'm sooo impressed. I love these mainly because they don't stretch out during the day and get baggy. Nothing drives me more insane than having loose fitted jeans by the end of a work shift or just a long day. These are perfect. They have zipper details too but it's not too gaudy.

3. J.Crew Hayden Satchel- So when J.Crew was having that fabulous 75% off sale I score this beauty. It fits so much (see what I mean in this post). I love the tassel detailing; I think that was the initial reason I fell in love with it when I saw it online. Unfortunately, I think it's sold out now. The fall bags have the similar tassel detail, check it out down below.

4. Calvin Klein Undies- I can thank Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and my best friend Sarah for this favorite. They're SO comfy and I realized they're not super expensive. I can't express how worth it they are. I treated myself and got a bunch of the undies. I have one of the bras and it's equally as comfy. Highly recommend, sorry Victoria's Secret.

5. FIT Me! Matte and Poreless Powder- I decided to try a new face/setting powder this month and I'm really happy with what I decided. I like this one because it actually gives you a little coverage (I usually buy translucent powder) and it definitely does keep you pretty matte. And it's cheap!

6. Starbucks Iced Caramel Machiattos- When I'm having a rough day at work or I'm absolutely exhausted my 'treat' is a caramel machiatto on my break from Starbs. There's not much to say about them other than they're delicious and I recently started drinking them a lot more. Healthy? No I don't think so. If anyone has any 'skinny' options for them, let me know!

7. Arquiste for J.Crew Perfume No. 57- I got the rollerball of this musky and oaky smelling perfume at Christmas and I was saving it for special events. I realized why the heck should I wait around for something "special" and let this amazing scent go to waste. I'm a HUGE fan of musky scents. This one is described as a "woodsy blend of cedarwood, cinnamon, and whiskey". I have to say that's a pretty spot on description. Smell it the next time you're in your local J.Crew.

8. Steve Madden Proto Pumps- I was at Saks Off Fifth a few weeks ago and scored these at an amazing price. I've wanted a plain, simple black heel and these were perfect. They're surprisingly comfortable and easy to walk in too. These are coming up in a future blog post :)

9. Ray-Ban Aviators- I recently started wearing my brown aviators a lot more. These were my first pair of Ray-Bans and the ones that made me realize the Ray-Ban hype. They are the perfect size for me, I love extra large sunnies. I think this is a great pair for everyone if you're thinking about buying your first pair.

10. Poshmark- I made a quick post about my Poshmark account a few weeks back. I can't emphasize it enough how easy and mindless it is to sell on this app and right from your phone! You take pictures, state the basic information about the item, pick the price, and list it. People can make offers on your items and it's up to you to counteroffer or just accept or decline the offer. When someone purchases your item you get sent an email with the prepaid shipping label all filled out. All you really need to do is find a box/envelope to ship your items and that's it! SO easy. Your money is sent directly from Poshmark, no need to fuss with Paypal or pay for shipping. I highly suggest digging through your closet and finding some things to list -- I've made around $250 in three weeks.

xo.

August Money Well Spent

End of August is here, where did summer go? In this month's MWS we are talking Fall prep just like last month, but a little more serious this time. I included lots of shoe options as well as some denim. Can't go wrong with any of those. August/Early September is a tricky time because it's still pretty warm but with an occasional chilled day.

ANKLE BOOTIES

Booties in August? Don't freak out on me just yet. This is prime boot time because they're just coming out with all their new styles and colors. I picked ankle booties rather than full fledged riding boots this month because you can honestly still wear these lil' guys with some sundresses. Roll up your jeans and wear them with a loose-fit band tee or oversized v-neck for a comfy and casual look during transition time.

QUALITY DENIM
If you haven't already splurged on some good denim, now is the time my friends. Please put those awful American Eagle jeans away that have the designs on the back pocket (some even have sequins now?). I suggest going to GAP or J.Crew for some great denim. I recommend a dark wash to invest in because it can be dressed up or down.

LOAFERS / SPERRY'S

I like to think of Sperry's as a dressy shoe, some may not agree. For those, I suggest a nice suede or leather loafer. These both are so classic and can be worn for years to come if you invest. They'll never go out of style! Loafers can be worn to work too. For the Sperry's-- don't get those leopard print ones or sequins, I promise you'll end up regretting them like I did. Just put my sequin ones on Poshmark actually. Do yourself a favor and get a neutral, timeless pair.

Stripes + Tulle

Are you even a fashion blogger if you don't have a tulle skirt? ;)
I was so excited when I found this on Poshmark for a super reasonable price. I think they're so cute to style and all my favorite bloggers have had them on their blog at least once.

LOVE this look!
Special thanks to Jessica on Poshmark for having this lovely skirt in her closet and shipping it so quickly! Check out her closet and follow her; she does an amazing job!

Canvas Inspo #BloggersBTS

For my dorm this year I painted some canvases to put on my wall. I thought it was fun to make and will look great as decor in my room. I wanted to show you some inspiration for making your very own canvases. I also suggest searching "DIY Canvases" on Pinterest; there's soooo many cute ideas.

Start out with the basics.
Pen + Pencil, for drawing out designs, marking lines, etc.
Paint brushes
Water, to wash off paint in between colors.
Acrylic Paint
Glitter Paint
Washi Tape
Canvases, size of your choice. I got two packs of 5 for 3 dollars each.

I didn't necessarily keep a color theme, but I used a lot of gold through out each one.

Use Washi Tape to create perfect lines.

Write your favorite quotes.

How cute is the owl!? He took the longest, but it was worth it.

I hope you got some great ideas! I love crafting, I wish I had more time to relax and do it more often!

August 2015 Playlist

I thought it was time for an updated playlist from my Spotify! Here's what I've been gravitating to lately. I've been loving some tracks from the Paper Town's soundtrack, which by the way was an great movie, you should definitely go see it! I've also been jamming to some more rap than usual and I added some favorites from my beloved The 1975. Enjoy!

Bell Sleeves & Bare Back

So if you never checked out my Poshmark account, do so! Because from deep searching, I discovered that one of my favorite brands, TOBI.com is sold for super cheap there. Sometimes things are final sale, or people get the wrong size, etc. One man's trash is another one's treasure right? Even though Tobi usually has amazing sales, I find things for $5 on Poshmark. I went out on a whim and bought this super flowy floral dress and I'm in LOVE.

To those who say black and brown can't be worn together, here's to proving you wrong!

(Casually trying to show the bell sleeves)

Yelling at my photographer/Complaining about the wind, no surprise there.

How gorgeous is the lake I was at?

Back to School Advice

Here's some back to school advice as told through some quotes. College is a time of meeting new people, maintaining a heavy homework load, as well as having some of the best years of your life.

1. Don't slack on your work, do extra work where it is needed, and plan ahead. Have a paper thats due at the end of the month? Why wait? At least get a head start on it. You'll thank yourself when it comes time to finish it.

2. Do you really need to go to see a movie on a Tuesday night when you have a huge paper due in the morning? Sometimes you have to say no to some fun things, it's apart of life. Remember why you're in college in the first place.

3. You meet tons of new people no matter what year you're in for school. Always be open minded, friendly, and genuine when meeting people.

4. But no matter who you meet or become friends with, stay true to you and still do what you want to do in life.

5. You do realize you have to get a job after a few years of partying and studying right? Get involved. Boost your resume with internships, extra curricular, and intramural sports. Imagine your dream job and do everything in your power to get there.

6. But of course, have fun. College is a blast. Make the most of your years there.

Good luck this year! xo

My Agenda + more! #BloggersBTS

Hi everyone! If you're obsessed with being organized and decking out your daily planners, this is the post for you. I'm talking what planners I enjoy, what I do to when I write things down, my favorite place to get stickers, and favorite pens/pencils/highlighters + more!

LILLY PULITZER AGENDA

This was my first planner from my freshman year of college. I was the epitome of a basic preppy gal a year ago at this time, hence the bright Lilly choice and the stickers you'll see later. I like to think that I've toned down from that lifestyle, you can even tell by the planner I got for this year.

The planner's front page is a double sided pocket, pretty standard.

Color coded months for easy finding and flipping.

One of my monthly views. This month I strictly used this page for mostly everything, since I wasn't in school just yet and didn't have daily tasks; hence the tons of writing and items.

A typical month. Birthdays, appointments, no class days.

Now onto the daily/weekly view! I was really into color coding each class then writing my assignments in black next to them. Important things were highlighted. I also like to check things off once I'm done with them. The post it towards the top left is a quote, I like adding these randomly so when I get to the week I get a little reminder.

Another quote Post-It, this one by the one and only Jenna.

A plain view.

Each month has a page with a quote and a Lilly design.

A crazy prepster? Yeah that was pre-college Shelby. The whale is Vineyard Vines, the bow tie is Fraternity Collection and the anchor is from Red Bubble.
I loved this agenda, I totally wore it out before it was even time to get a new one. This one goes August 2014-December 2015; typical times for agendas. If you like vibrant colors and prints, this one is for you. I also felt like there was more than enough room to write everything down.

KATE SPADE AGENDA

Now onto my current lifeline! I drastically changed color/style right? I love this one because it's sooo plain inside. As seen in last years agenda, I like to color code. These pages are strictly black and white.

Like my other one, I have a double sided pocket page in the front. I keep my to-do lists, my upcoming blog post ideas, things of that nature in here.

Unlike the Lilly one, the month pages are just polka dots.

A current monthly view. I'm trying to use my monthly views for planning scheduled blog posts. I'm still deciding if I like it! Everything else is written in black (birthdays, anniversarys). My work hours are written in pink.

Like the month before, September has black writing for important dates. Of course I marked down New York fashion week?!

Now keep in mind, I haven't had this agenda for school yet so the pages are quite bare. That's mainly why I showed my Lilly one, because you can get a better feel for how I keep track of things.

My big thing for this agenda is Post-Its. I put important things to remember, my to-do lists, things like that so I don't just skim over them. This is why I had SO MANY Post-Its in my recent bag post.

More monthly planning pages. These would be great for writing birthdays again, anniversaries, etc.

The back is just as cute, with the Kate Spade logo and this carpe diem sticker from RedBubble.com.

+ MORE!

Post-Its are life. Obviously.

This year I'm using this Kate Spade pouch for all my pens/pencils, etc.

These PaperMate pens are LIFE.

Some of my various favorite highlighters and pens. Anyone else super particular about theirs?

Hope you enjoyed! Be sure to follow the linkup #BloggersBTS for more 'desk' related posts!
