Classic Gingham

To me, summer is gingham season. I have a shirt in almost every color and I believe they are a staple for any classic style wardrobe. I styled it here with jeans on a windy day, but they can go with a colorful pair of chino shorts or a summer skirt.

I had a special lil' guest today while shooting!

Shirt | Jeans (absolute FAVORITE jeans) | Sandals | Watch (similar) | Bracelets are old so I couldn't find them but are from BaublebarKJPPura Vida | Satchel (similar, my bag is Cole Haan from almost 4 years ago)

until next time loves,

What to Wear: 4th of July

what to wear 4th of july

I picked some outfits that are perfect for backyard parties and get togethers for the Fourth. Each of the outfits are pretty casual and relaxed. Depending on what you are doing, the maxi dress outfit can be for classier events. The tank and boyfriend jeans ensemble is great for dressy or relaxed occasions; whereas the shorts and striped tank can be for a day at the beach house or just a backyard barbecue. If you hadn't noticed, they all incorporate red white and blue in some form or another but all in wearable ways.

Hope you got some inspiration as well as have a fabulous upcoming holiday!

Review of Serial

As you may come to realize, I travel a lot to Long Island/New York City. I'm always thinking of new ways to keep myself busy on those long 4-5 hour trips. Luckily, my brother recently suggested I listen to Serial, a free podcast about a murder case involving high school students that occurred back in 1999.
Not only have I found a new love for podcasts, but this one is so intriguing. It mainly covers all of the "what ifs" about if Adnan Syed actually was the murderer of his ex girlfriend. I'm not great at explaining, so here's a summary from the website:

"On January 13, 1999, a girl named Hae Min Lee, a senior at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore County, Maryland, disappeared. A month later, her body turned up in a city park. She'd been strangled. Her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was arrested for the crime, and within a year, he was convicted and sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison. The case against him was largely based on the story of one witness, Adnan’s friend Jay, who testified that he helped Adnan bury Hae's body. But Adnan has always maintained he had nothing to do with Hae’s death. Some people believe he’s telling the truth. Many others don’t.
Sarah Koenig, who hosts Serial, first learned about this case more than a year ago. In the months since, she's been sorting through box after box (after box) of legal documents and investigators' notes, listening to trial testimony and police interrogations, and talking to everyone she can find who remembers what happened between Adnan Syed and Hae Min Lee fifteen years ago. What she realized is that the trial covered up a far more complicated story, which neither the jury nor the public got to hear. The high school scene, the shifting statements to police, the prejudices, the sketchy alibis, the scant forensic evidence - all of it leads back to the most basic questions: How can you know a person’s character? How can you tell what they’re capable of? In Season One of Serial, she looks for answers."
The narrator of the podcast, Sarah Koenig, does an amazing job with this. Each episode keeps you on your toes and leaves you wondering if Adnan really did it. To me, I don't think he did. They didn't even do a through investigation; they only depended on one man's testimony. Sometimes you think theres no possible way he could've, other times you think of course it was him. I suggest you all check out this podcast if you're into hearing about crime scenes and convictions and all that jazz. See for yourself all the ways they could have proved Adnan's innocence.

Summer Colors

 I can't tell what I love more in this post; my ikat shell from J.Crew or this amazing wall I found downtown.

My Travel Essentials

If you're planning to take a vacation soon like me, you may think you're forgetting some really important things. I like to be over prepared whenever I travel and I always get nervous that I'll forget something I desperately need. Here are my picks for some necessities you might find helpful for your next trip.

travel essentials

SUNNIES- I bring my sunnies everywhere but I sometimes misplace them when I switch purses and whatnot. I bring a neutral pair as well as a fun pair like the ones shown; I like options! { Ray-Bans }

PORTABLE CHARGER- Nothing is worse than a low battery and missing the opportunity to take pictures on your phone. Other than that, I always get anxiety whenever I'm traveling by bus or train and my battery is low since I usually have to meet someone when I get to my destination. Having a back up charger like this eliminates that worry. { Amazon }

MINI HAND SANITIZERS- Gross public bathrooms are my worst enemy. I practically bathe in hand sanitizer while traveling and it's just a great item to have all the time. My favorites are from Bath & Body Works and I always get them 5 for $5 so I have plenty of them. { Bath and Body }

LIP BALM- I hate when I don't have some sort of lip product on hand. Especially in the summer when my lips are irritated and dried out from being in the sun. I love the Smith's rose bud salve lip balm because it gives you a glossy pink tint without being sticky like regular lip glosses. It lasts forever too! { Smith's }

DRY SHAMPOO- Honestly, sometimes we don't have the time to wash our hair. I like to use dry shampoo even when my hair isn't dirty just because it gives me so much volume. It's a nice refresher or your hair and makes your hair feel super clean. { Batiste }

SETTING SPRAY WITH SPF- This particular spray by Supergoop! is amazing. It's so cooling on the skin and dries instantly. I love it because it has a matte finish and it's made to control your oil. The small travel bottle is $13 but I feel like i'll get my use out of it for sure. { Supergoop! }

REPAIRING LOTION- I definitely got some color when I recently went to Long Island. I used this lotion on my back and arms to preserve my tan and prevent peeling. A repairing lotion will focus more on your skin rather than scented body lotions that are typically just made to smell nice and not moisturize. I used this lotion during accutane and I swear it saved my skin. This tub lasts forever too! { First Aid Beauty }

CAMERA- I of course am really into taking pictures and capturing moments etc. so I always love having my camera with me. I have the Canon EOS SL1 DSLR camera and it's amazing. I actually just received my GoPro Hero in the mail too so I'm excited to use that on vacation in July. { Canon // GoPro Hero }

PODCASTS- My brother recommended I listen to the podcast "Serial" recently and I'm so glad he did. Listening to a podcast is soooo much more enjoyable on a trip than listening to the few songs on my iphone. This particular podcast is really interesting and makes you think. It's about a murder story that happened in 1999. Check it out, I HIGHLY recommend! (and it's free!) { Serial }

SUMMER SWEATER- For some odd reason I ended up perusing through American Eagle last week and found the most perfect knit cardigan. I wore it literally everyday on Long Island. It's not too heavy and not too light which makes it perfect for summer nights and windy days. (On sale!) { AEO }

Safe travels this summer!

Midsummer Playlist (Spotify Link)

I finally feel confident in the new music I've found lately to share a new playlist with you all. There's some songs that are from J.Crew/Madewell store playlists as well as a few other summery songs. Hope you enjoy & find something new!

Spontaneous LI Trip Recap

I'm sorry for the lack of posts; to be honest I was feeling really unmotivated last week and I was kind of in a funk. And the other reason I wasn't posting was because of a sudden trip to Long Island! But I'm back and ready to get more focused!

Treat Yo-self

I hope everyone has seen this episode of Parks and Rec. If not, look up the treat yourself episode cause that's really the best one of the series. Anyway! Every once and a while I'll do little things throughout my day to brighten my mood or just treat myself after a hectic schedule. Here are some of my favorite ways to add some happiness to my day.

Classic Bohemian Vibes

Today's fashion post is a little bohemian, kinda classic, and a little Tory Burch inspired. I adore this look!

My go-to summer outfits

Go to summer outfits

1. Chambray & Chinos
I've worn chambray tops over a thousand times, it goes with so much. In the summer, a colorful pair of shorts and some sandals are a super cute and easy outfit to throw on in the morning. It's casual but still presentable; adding some jewelry will dress it up even more.
2. Gingham & White Denim
I think this is such a classic look for the summer months. This is perfect for back yard parties, days at the country club, or just to go shopping. There are so many colors of gingham you can pair with this. Some Jacks make the look even more classic; especially the white pair.

3. Stripes & Sneakers
I think my new love are shirt dresses. I have this one from and it's beyond comfy. I love pairing it with some sneakers to give it a really relaxed vibe. You can catch me wearing this to do errands. The black and white is so easy to accessorize too.

Colourpop Cosmetics Review & Swatches

Hi everyone! I FINALLY got around to ordering some Colourpop goodies! They're a relatively new brand (just turned 1 year old in May) and they offer AMAZING products. The best part? Everything is 5 dollars; single eyeshadows, lip liners, and their Lippie Stix are all FIVE DOLLARS. Its unbelievable how cheap they are since they are high end quality.

June's Money Well Spent

Happy June! Just like last month, I'm picking out some staple items that will build your wardrobe/vanities over time. These picks will last you a long time, making the money worth it. A quality hat, tinted moisturizer, and a Longchamp tote are all worthy of Money Well Spent.

Longchamp 'Large Le Pliage" Tote ($149) - This bag doubles as so many things. I chose this for June because it's great as a beach bag, a carry-on, or for running errands. I like bringing this when I go shopping because I can just throw some of my shopping bags in here since it's so roomy. I like it for the train when I visit Mike because I can fit so much into it and not have to worry.

Tinted Moisturizer with SPF, Laura Mercier ($44) and bareMinerals ($29)- SPF is so important for the summer but it is so widely ignored! A tinted moisturizer is a perfect way to always remember to protect your skin. I chose two tinted moisturizers for this because they're different consistencies and coverages. The bareMineral one has a gel-like consistency when the Laura Mercier one is definitely more of a lotion feel. Both are great for summer because they have the right amount of coverage. Contrary to popular belief, getting insanely tan is not my top priority in the warmer months; having protected skin is more practical!

Baseball hats, J.Crew ($29), Ralph Lauren ($35)- These are versatile because you can wear them year round. I throw them on for the typical bad hair day and sometimes I'll make an outfit around them. They're great for the beach to keep the sun out of your eyes and still look cute.

Hope you found your next splurge item!
